Update Regarding the First and Last Day of the 2011-2012 School Year
Due to recent changes in the state laws that govern public education in Illinois, the first and last day of the 2011-2012 school year will be full days of school for District 97 students and staff. Since the first day of school (August 24) falls on a Wednesday this year, we will follow our usual Wednesday schedule—the elementary schools will dismiss at 1:55 p.m. and the middle schools will dismiss at 3:30 p.m. Please click here for additional information about this change.

In accordance with federal law, the free and reduced lunch application cannot be distributed until one month prior to the start of the school year. The application will be sent via U.S. mail to all District 97 families at the end of July, and be made available in the Payments section on www.op97.org.

Referendum Lawsuit Dismissed
On July 1, 2011, Judge Mary Mikva dismissed the lawsuit filed by the individuals who were seeking to prevent District 97 from implementing the limiting rate increase that was passed by the citizens of Oak Park on April 5, 2011. Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Screenings
In August, all incoming District 97 kindergarten students will participate in a mandatory Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot screening. Through this screening, we will be able to effectively assess children’s skills and abilities prior to starting kindergarten, and be better equipped and prepared to meet their academic, social and emotional needs during the school year. Summer Hours of Operation - District 97 Administration Building
From June 13, 2011 to August 5, 2011, the hours of operation at the district's administration building (970 Madison Street) will be as follows:
- Monday through Thursday - 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Friday - 8 a.m. to noon
- Summer Music Camp, which is being held at Hatch from July 18 through July 29
- Update: Jazz Camp has been cancelled due to low registration numbers
